Drummer

We are happy to inform that we have got a new drummer for the band! Staffan Lahti is his name, and has a lot of experience as a professional drummer, and also in music production. And he is a really nice person, so we are really looking forward to this new cooperation.

Mars

We have started rehearsing again now, after a calm period. We have some candidates for the drums, and are going to test to play together, starting with the first one today. It makes me happy to get good respons for the songs from different people. I have been working on the recordings we made in november, and a lot of them was done in a hurry. I am wondering if I should keep working on them, or go for another recording. I/we did a lot of mistakes that first time. In one way I am eager to get the songs "out", so I can, you know, move on, write more, working on getting gigs etc. But in the other way, I want it to be as good as possible, and also not missing the opportunity of learning as much as I can in the process. And I have to accept that things take time. One thing is to have a goal, another is to put a deadline for it. Often I get the impression that is crucial to have a deadline. Or else you will not get things done. Ask any marketing expert. I understand that. But then, if you do something new, it is quite impossible to know how much time every step is going to take. Ask any teacher that ;) I kept thinking that I was satisfied if I had a recoding that was "good enought". Because I know you cant do things perfect (and you can fix alot with the computer afterwards). But now my theory is more that I want it to have "the extra spark"). And another reflextion: Why a CD? I myself don´t listen to 11 songs from one artist at a time, just the best ones. Feels like a waste nowadays, if you have a lot of good songs (as we have ;) ), then it would be better to release singles. ? ? So many choices... But at least one of the songs I have decided to use, and that is a recording of "I´m running" (the one at the video), and we will send it to the Metro On Stage contest (a music competition arranged by the newspaper Metro) in april. So then we will need you to vote for us, and we might come in the final. That would be fun.

This sunday

..the 8th of january, we play at the polish cultural association (Polska Föreningen), Fabrikgatan 10, around 17 o clock. We will play at 30-40 minutes. It´s an concert that support a big polish charity campaign for the organisation WOŚP This year the goal is to raise money for medical equipment for mothers and newborn at polish hospitals. (I have to say I am happy for being able to support such a good cause :D ) We will play with an acousitc setting, no drums. It´s open for everybody, free at charge, so welcome!

Happy new year

I have had kind of a blog writing block, and that´s partly because I haven´t properly decided how to use the blog, and how personal I should be. Anyway, I have for myself stated that the blog represents me, and not the band, and I want to feel free to adress any topic I want. And now I write english, as I have a lot of hits from other countries as well on this blog. I have the last couple of months been focusing on the recordings we have done, and my goal is to release and album during the spring. It will be a simple producion, as circumstances allows, but the songs are great. I look forward to getting it done, so I can move on, write more, have more gigs, or whatever comes to mind. But this has to be done. What´s awaiting in 2012? A beautiful number. Let´s decide, that it´s going to be the best year so far. (I do that every year. And it always turns out to be right :) ) Happy new year to you.

Inspelning

Vi har varit på Gain Studio och spelat in igen, denna gång två heldagar. Vi hyrde studio för ett bra ABF pris. Vi har 11 låtar vi vill spela in, och vi fekk spelat in alla, lite hastigt, på denna tiden.

Välförtjent pizzapaus. Ljudtekniker till höger. Det har varit intensivt, och vi var alla utmattade efter helgen. Men det var också himla roligt att göra detta.

Nu genstår att spela in en del annat som piano, stämmor etc., och gå genom filerna på olika sätt. Jättesvårt att ta beslut om vad som är bra nog, både under inspelningarna, och i efterhand. Det är väl till sånt man har en producent. Studiotid är dyrt, så man får se vad man kan göra hemifrån. Men nåt skall vi få till av detta, en skiva är så klart i tankarna, men det är mycket att tänka på och fixa innan detta går i box. Inspelning är bara en bit, sen skall det mixas, mastras, få registreringsnummer, tryckas, distriuberas digitalt, marknadsföring etc. etc. (Agh! Och jag som bara ville skriva låtar! Lika bra man inte visste vad det innebär, annars skulle man valt akrylmålning i stället ;) Fast kanske det inte vore lika kul )

Men man får ta en ting i taget, och det får ta den tid det tar. Men jag väljer att tro att man lär sig värdefulla ting av varje steg man tar, när man har ett mål som bygger på nåt genuint. Att inget man slet för var förgäves, när man i efterhand ser den stora bilden. Eller som Steve Jobs (RIP)formulerer det i sin legendariska Stanford graduation speech: "You cant connect the dots looking forward, you can only connect the dots looking backwards".

Nu är jag t.ex. glad för all tid jag lagt ned på att lära mig Cubase, trass all frustration, trass att man inte kom nån vart på länge, så kan jag nu spela in nytt piano själv, jag kan göra enkel redigering med klippa och klistra, och man kommer långt på detta. Mycket bättre att sitta hemma än att stressa på en studio, tänker jag. Men, det kommer gå med skölpaddesteg. Mellan jobb och familj, gräva fram nån ledig tid här och där. Så får det vara.
